The St. Louis Cardinals continued their west coast swing with the start of a series last night in San Francisco against the Giants.  A game of errors and a strong start by Cy Young Winner Tim Lincecum lead to the Giants beating the Cards 4-1.

Lincecum is now 4-0 on the season.  He would go seven innings, giving up just one run while striking out eight. His ERA on the season is now 1.

Cardinals’ starter Jaime Garcia did not pitch badly last night, going six innings while giving up two runs.  He would have to battle through a first inning that saw two runners score on an error by Brendan Ryan and a third inning that had another runner score on an error by Skip Schumaker.  One run would also score on a wild pitch from Garcia.

The only offense for the Cardinals would come in the sixth when Jadier Molina would hit a single that would score Matt Holliday.  Holliday had singled earlier in the inning, and then stole second.

St. Louis would have other scoring chances in the game as they left nine runners on base.

Game two of the series is tonight with Adam Wainwright getting the start for St. Louis against San Francisco’s Barry Zito.

Game time is 8:05.
