Atlanta bound! Final Mizzou 21 Arkansas 14 Game Summary and Notes

– Missouri would tie the game with 12:41 left in the quarter after Mauk gets red hot.  He finds Jimmie Hunt for 44 yards, Bud Sasser for 28 yards and then Hunt for a 4 yard touchdown.  The Tigers tie the game on a two point conversion that sees Marcus Murphy take a direct snap and pitch to Sasser who throws to Darius White in the end zone for the conversion.  Drive: 10 plays 98 yards 3:32   Mizzou 14 Arkansas 14

– Arkansas starts their possession at their own 25 yard line.  They would manage one first down but the Tigers defense would hold and force a punt which is taken by Marcus Murphy with a fair catch at the Tigers 15 yard line.  Mizzou takes over with 10:42 left in the quarter.

– The Tigers would then execcute an 85 yard touchdown drive that featured a key fourth down and one conversion.  Marcus Murphy races in from 12 yards out to cap the drive.   Drive Summary: 12 plays 85 yards 6:04     Mizzou 21 Arkansas 14 with 4:38 left in the quarter.

– The Razorbacks drive starts at their own 25 yard line and they reach the Mizzou 34 yard line but Markus Golden recovers a fumble and the Tigers get the ball back with 2:13 left

– The Tigers are able to run out the clock and preserve the win to advance to the SEC Championship Game for the second straight year.

Game Notes…

– Missouri reaches the 10 win mark for the 5th time under Head Coach Gary Pinkel

– Sasser’s 127 receiving yards gave him his fourth 100 yard receiving game of his career

– Kentrell Brothers led the Tigers with 11 tackles

– Mizzou wins the SEC East for the second straight year.  They are just the fourth SEC East program to win back to back division titles joining Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Arkansas 14 Mizzou 6 Third Quarter Summary

– Arkansas starts the quarter with the ball at their own 40 yard line and after gaining one first down the Tigers defense gets a stop and forces a punt.  A 38 yard punt gives Mizzou the ball at their own 9 yard line with 13:05 left in the quarter.

– Mizzou would put together a terrific drive that would stall at the Arkansas 18 yard line.   Andrew Baggett is called on to attempt a 35 yard field goal but the kick is block by Dan Skipper and Arkansas maintains a 14-6 lead with 7:42 left in the quarter.  Maty Mauk and Bud Sasser were instrumental in the drive but a penalty by Sasser for unsposrtmanlike conduct slowed the drive late.

– Arkansas would get a big play on special teams on their drive when they pick up a first down on a 23 yard fake punt carry by punter Sam Irwin-Hill but the defense would eventually get a stop when Kody Walker is stopped on a 4th and 3 run at the Missouri 31 yard line with 4:17 left in the quarter.

– The Tigers possession would end when Bud Sasser catches a slant pass but fumbles and Arkansas recovers at the Missouri 49 yard line.

– Missouri’s defense would force an Arkansas punt but a terrific special teams play would down the punt at the Tigers 2 yard line where they start their next drive.

– A first down pass to Bud Sasser gets the Tigers off of their own goal line and the quarter ends with Mizzou facing a 3rd and 7 at their own 19 yard line.

Arkansas 14 Mizzou 6 Second Quarter Summary

– The Missouri drive that ended the first quarter would stall when Maty Mauk is sacked for a 12 yard loss but kicker Andrew Baggett comes on to drill a 52 yard field goal. It is the longest field goal in Baggett’s career.  The points are the first allowed by the Arkansas defense in over nine quarters.  Drive: 17 plays 41 yards 7:25   Arkansas 7 Mizzou 3 with 14:23 left in the quarter.

-Arkansas starts at their own 25 yard line and the Tigers defense is able to get the Razorbacks offense off the field quickly.   After a punt Mizzou would start at their own 15 yard line.  Murphy muffed the punt reception but recovered the ball.

– The Tigers aren’t able to move the ball on the drive and are forced to punt after a three and out.   Brinser’s punt is 41 yards but returned 35 yards by Jared Cornelius to the Mizzou 31 yard line.

– The Razorbacks would take advantage of the great field position to extend their lead to 14-3 on a 12 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Allen to Keon Hatcher.  Drive: 6 plays 31 yards 3:43 .

– Mizzou starts a drive at their own 29 yard line and can’t get much done as they are forced to punt after a three and out.   An illegal block penalty was key to ending the possession.   Following a punt by Missouri the Razorbacks take over at their own 32 yard line with 5:12 left in the quarter.

– Arkansas would advance inside Missouri territory but the Tigers defense comes up with a fumble.  Jonathan Williams fumble was forced by Markus Golden and Mizzou takes over at their own 46 yard line with 4:38 left in the quarter.

– On the first play after the fumble Missouri gives it back when a Maty Mauk pass is deflected at the line of scrimmage and intercepted by DJ Dean.   Arkansas starts at the Mizzou 47 yard line.

– The Tigers defense would stiffen and force the Razorbacks to punt but the Tigers would have to start at their own 6 yard line.

– Missouri would move the ball to the Arkansas 33 yard line to set up a 50 yard field goal try by Andrew Baggett that is good to make the score Arkansas 14 Mizzou 6 at the half.

Stats… Mauk 13 of 22 for 99 yards and 1 interception,   Hansbrough 9 carries for 19 yards.  Murphy 4 catches for 27 yards.

Arkansas 7 Mizzou 0 First Quarter Summary

– Tigers receive the opening kickoff and start at their own 25 yard line.   Mauk rushes twice for eight yards and throws one incomplete pass.  Mizzou goes three and out and punts to Arkansas.

– Razorbacks start their first possession at their own 30 yard line and put together an impressive drive resulting in a touchdown when quarterback Brandon Allen finds Jonathan Williams wide open for a 21 yard pass completion. Arkansas would convert three different third downs on the possession.  Drive: 11 plays 70 yards 6:49.  Arkansas 7 Mizzou 0 with 6:48 left in the quarter.

– Missouri end the quarter in the midst of an impressive drive that takes them to the Arkansas 22 yard line and facing a 3rd down and 4.  The Tigers have a key fourth down on the drive.

– Maty Mauk 8 of 10 for 52 yards and leads the team with 13 rushing yards after one quarter.

End 1st: Arkansas 7 Mizzou 0

Mizzou Downs #18 UCLA 80-71 At Mizzou Arena

The Missouri Tigers are the SEC’s lone unbeaten team after overcoming a thirteen point first half deficit and beating the 18th ranked UCLA Bruins 80-71 in Columbia.  Mizzou is led by the guard trio of Jabari Brown (22 points), Jordan Clarkson (21 points), and Earnest Ross (20 points). Johnathan Williams III adds 10 points and 15 rebounds.  Missouri trailed 43-35 at the half but would hold the Bruins to just 28 second half points as UCLA makes just 8 of 31 shots from the field.

Missouri makes 10 of 26 shots from three point range led by Ross who was 5 of 11 from long distance.  UCLA goes just 5 of 20 from three point range.  The Tigers win the game despite committing 18 turnovers.  Mizzou would dominate the glass posting a rebound advantage of 47-30.

The win is Missouri’s 24th straight at home and it is their 79th consecutive win over a non conference foe at Mizzou Arena.   The Tigers improve their record to 9-0 while UCLA falls to 8-1.

The Tigers are off until December 15th when they host Western Michigan.  Mizzou will then play in St. Louis against Illinois on December 21st and at North Carolina St on December 28th to wrap up the 2013 portion of their schedule.

Final: Mizzou 28 Texas A&M 21 Postgame Notes and Stats (AUDIO and VIDEO)

-Missouri is now 11-1 over and 7-1 in SEC play securing the SEC East Division title and a trip to Atlanta on December 7th to meet Auburn for the SEC championship.

-The division title is Missouri’s 4th in the last 7 years.

-Head Coach Gary Pinkel records his 101st win at Missouri, tying him with Don Faurot for the most in program history.

-Missouri trailed at the half for the first time this season.

-The game was the Tigers 3rd straight sellout.  A season high 67,124 saw the win.

-The Tigers recorded a take away for the 42nd straight game.  The longest streak in the nation.

-QB James Franklin goes 18/28 for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also carries the ball 18 times for 89 yards.

-Dorial Green-Beckham records 7 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

-L’Damian Washington catches 6 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

-Henry Josey rushes 13 times for 96 yards and the game winning score.

Mizzou vs Texas A&M 4th Quarter Summary

-The quarter starts with the Tigers facing a 2nd and 6 at their own 45 yard line and they can’t gain a first down and are forced to punt.  The Aggies start at their own 2 yard line with 13:34 left in the quarter.

-Texas A&M puts together a 9 play 98 yard drive to tie it on a 7 yard touchdown run by Ben Malena with 10:43 remaining.  Defense had been solid prior to the drive but had no answer for A&M there

-Mizzou starts at their own 30 yard line and a quick three and out means a punt giving the ball back to A&M at their own 30 yard line with 8:59 left in the quarter

-A&M can’t get anything going and they punt after three downs.  Mizzou takes over at their own 24 yard line with 8:08 to play

-The Tigers keep a drive alive on an A&M pass interference call then would be forced to punt giving A&M the ball at their own 10 with 6:02 left.

-The Aggies go three and out and the Tigers get the ball back at their own 34 with 4:47 remaining and they would get a 57 yard touchdown run from Henry Josey to go up 28-21 with 3:34 remaining.

-The defense steps up to get a stop and force an A&M punt and the Tigers never give the ball back to the Aggies as they run out the clock and secure the SEC East Division title with a 28-21 win

Mizzou vs Texas A&M 3rd Quarter Summary

-Missouri starts the quarter with the ball at their own 25 yard line and trailing 14-7.  The Tigers are able to put together a 75 yard drive that results in a Marcus Murphy two yard touchdown run.  The big play of the drive was a 35 yard completion from James Franklin to L’Damian Washington.  With 12:15 left in the quarter the game is tied 14-14

-The Missouri defense then gets a stop as they force the Aggies to punt.  Marcus Murphy then returns the punt to the Missouri 43 yard line where Mizzou starts with 9:05 left in the quarter.

-Mizzou would then put together their second impressive drive of the quarter.  They go 57 yards on 8 plays and James Franklin finds L’Damian Washington for a 5 yard touchdown.  6:26 left in the quarter and the Tigers lead 21-14

-The Aggies start at their own 16 yard line and and would reach the Missouri 45 yard line before punting and the Tigers take over at their own 13 yard line with 1:24 left in the quarter.

-Missouri would face a 2nd and 6 at their own 45 when the quarter ends.

Mizzou vs Texas A&M 2nd Quarter Summary

-Missouri starts a drive at their own 13 yard line trailing 7-0 and after three plays they are forced to punt but the Aggies DeVante Harris fumbles and the Tigers keep the ball at the Aggies 36 yard line.   Maty  Mauk replaces James Franklin at quarterback but the offense continues to struggle as they go three and out.  After the punt the Aggies start at their own 12 yard line with 12:07 left in the quarter and A&M leading 7-0

-The Aggies pick up a big first down on 3rd and 12 and then move the drive into Missouri territory with a completion from Johnny Manziel to Travis Labhart.  The drive stalls when a Manziel pass to LaQuvionte Gonzalez is incomplete.  After a punt the Tigers start at their own 6 yard line with 8:33 left in the quarter.  Texas A&M still on top 7-0

-The Tigers put together their first sustained drive of the game and it pays off with a 7 play 94 yard drive resulting in a James Franklin to Dorial Green-Beckham 38 yard touchdown pass.  With 5:16 left in the quarter the game is tied 7-7

-A&M starts at their own 25 yard line and they need just 4 plays to regain the lead on a 32 yard touchdown pass from Johnny Manziel to Derel Walker.  Brandon Williams had a 42 yard run on the drive.  With 4:06 left in the quarter the Aggies lead 14-7

-Missouri begins a drive at their own 25 yard line and they reach the Aggies 29 yard line to set up a 47 yard field goal attempt by Andrew Baggett on the final play of the half.  His kick is no good.

Mizzou vs Texas A&M 1st Quarter Summary

-A&M receives the opening kickoff and it appears Mizzou has stopped them on 4th and 6 but a running into the kicker penalty gives the Aggies a 4th and 1 and they go for it and get the first down to keep the drive alive.  The Tigers defense gets another stop and this time the punt results in Missouri starting at their own 10 yard line with 11:08 left in the quarter.

-The Tigers are unable to do much with their first possession and after three plays they are forced to punt.  Texas A&M takes over at their own 35 yard line with 9:48 left in the quarter of a scoreless game.

-The Aggies then put together a 10 play 65 yard drive that results in a Tra Carson 29 yard touchdown run.  A&M grabs at 7-0 lead with 6:34 left in the quarter.

-Mizzou starts their second possession of the game at their own 25 yard line.  The drive would reach the A&M 37 but an incomplete pass on 3rd and 13 forces a punt.  A&M takes over at their own 5 yard line with 2:05 left in the quarter and the Aggies still on top 7-0

-Texas A&M manages one first down but they are forced to punt after a 3rd and 1 pass deep down the field is incomplete.  The Tigers start at their own 13 yard line as time expires in the quarter.

End 1st Quarter: Texas A&M 7 Mizzou 0
