Wash U On Verge Of 10th Title

November 21, 2009 By Missourinet Contributor

For a while yesterday, it looked like the season was going to come to a close for Washington University in the NCAA Division III semifinals against Hope College.  But the Bears did not quit, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to move on to tonight’s final game against Juanita College. After winning the first set 25-21, Washington University would lose the next two 22-25 and 15-25.  The Bears would then bounce back and take the next two sets, 27-25 and 15-12.

Washington University was led by senior middle hitter Erin Albers who had a career high 25 kills.  11 of those would come in the last two sets.

The Bears now move on to play Juanita College, a teams they have played five times to decide the Division III National Championship.  The two schools have split their previous four games, with Juanita winning the last one in 2006.

This will be the 14th Division III championship match for Washington University.  They have a record of 9-4 in these games.  The Bears have already won an NCAA record nine titles.  The last title for Washington University came in 2007.

Tonight’s match will start in University Heights. Ohio at 7:00.
