Parisi hammered in Cards loss

June 1, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Mike Parisi’s first major league start didn’t go as planned as the Pirates beat the Cardinals 14-4.  Parisi filling in for Joel Piniero who is on the DL lasted just 2 2/3 innings.

In fact, it wasn’t a good day for pitchers recently recalled from Memphis.  After Parisi was chased in the 3 rd , the damage was already done with his line looking awful; eight earned runs on eight hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Kelvin Jimenez who was recalled this past week from Memphis didn’t fare much better getting hammered with three home runs as he gave up five in 3 1/3 innings.  It was one of those outings where Tony LaRussa tried to get Jimenez to eat as many innings as possible.

Albert Pujols was the only St. Louis hitter to have a mulit-hit game as he went 2 for 3 to raise his average to .369.
