Giants beat Cardinals again

April 20, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Cardinals starter Braden Looper got roughed up in the series finale as the Giants win 8-2.  The loss knocks the Cardinals a half behind first place Chicago who beat Pittsburgh.

Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez , Keiichi Yabu, and Merkin Valdez combined for 8 innings of shut out ball of the Cardinals on just two hits.  The Cardinals managed two runs in the 9th inning.

The Giants got to Braden Looper (3-1) in the third by scoring six runs.  With two on and no outs, Ray Durham doubled in a run, followed by Bengie Molina’s two run double.  Aaron Rowand singled in Molina and scored on John Bowkers home run.  After batting around in the third, Looper was lifted after the lead off hitter reached base again in the 4th.  The Giants would get two more runs to add to their lead.

Troy Glaus who was benched earlier in the series for his slumping hitting, had two of the four Cardinals’ hits to raise his average to .242.

The Cardinals head to Milwaukee for a two game series, before heading to Pittsburgh for two.
