A walk-off home run by Ryan Ludwick in the bottom of the 14 th inning lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-6 win over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday night at Busch Stadium, allowing the Redbirds to take two out of the three games played in Phase Two of the 2007 I-70 Series.

The Royals got out in front early and led the Cards 3-1 after the 1 st inning. But St. Louis came back, scoring three runs in the 5 th to tie the game after the Royals has scored a run in the top of the 5 th . Each team scored two runs through the 9 th , sending the contest to extra innings.

After four scoreless extra innings, Ludwick stepped up to the plate with nobody on and nobody out and ended the game with a swing of his bat for his 4 th home run since joining the Cardinals.

Kip Wells (3-11) pitched 2 innings in relief, giving up only 1 hit, to earn the win.  Joreg De La Rosa (4-8), who game up the homer to Ludwick, took the loss.

Both teams have an off-day Thursday. The Cardinals (32-37) open a weekend series Friday night at Busch Stadium against Philadelphia. Anthony Reyes (0-8) goes to the mound for the Cards against the Phillies’ Jamie Moyer (6-5).

The Royals (29-44) hit the road to play the Brewers in Milwaukee. Jorge De La Rosa (4-8) pitches for KC against Milwaukee’s Jeff Suppan (7-7).
