Economic Development Chief Optimistic, Despite Economic Forecast

November 6, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Missouri’s Economic Development Director sees a bright future, even as he eyes a report that forecasts a slowing state economy. Economic Development Director Greg Steinhoff considers the Creighton University Business Conditions Index part of the information base he uses to gauge progress. He has seen its report of lukewarm job growth in Missorui. Creighton surveys supply managers and found confidence dropped from September to its lowest level since September of 2001. Steinhoff considers the confidence index important, but places more importance on economic indicators such as new jobs and unemployment, which he says are strong. And he says some developments on the horizon could bolster confidence. The Creighton University report says truck transportation is a growing industry in Missouri and while it calls vehicle manufacturing a waning industry. Steinhoff says Missouri remains a major player in the auto industry.
