Missourians Advised to Watch for Hurricane Investment Scams

September 12, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Both the Secretary of State and the Attorney General are reminding Missourians that scammers are taking advantage of the Hurricane Katrina disaster to try to cheat people out of their money. David Cosgrove, Missouri’s Commissioner of Securities, says word of scams is coming in, but no one has been ripped off yet to his knowledge. Cosgrove says one of the scams is an updated version of the old Nigeria Scam in whcih someone claiming to be a Nigerian wants to donate money but cannot do so without your help – and your money. Once personal banking information is given the scammer makes off with someone’s money.
