The Missouri Department of Transportation is about to start an experiment in road building. Later this fall it is expected to list three projects that will be done under the design-build system. It’s a sytem that has contractors working with designers and bidding on projects together. MoDOT Transportation Planning Director Machelle Watkins says the Department will decide where it wants a road or a bridge, then will hire a team to do everything else. Legislature is letting the Department try this system on three projects. The projects should be selected this Fall.
