No one would argue that the Chiefs best player over the last two seasons has been Priest Holmes. He was on his way to leading the NFL in rushing before a hip injury in the 14th game of the season. Despite the injury, Holmes has indicated that he’s willing to sit out if he doesn’t get a new contract. His hip appears to be fully repaired but he still doesn’t have a new deal. Despite that, head coach Dick Vermeil indicated yesterday that Holmes will start. Vermeil admitted that he hasn’t talked to Holmes about it, but he has apparently indicated to his teammates that he will be there and the head coach says that’s good enough for him. The Chiefs open the season on Sunday at home against the Chargers.
