Missouri’s gift to the world of astronomy is now enshrined in the Hall of Famous Missourians at the State Capitol. Edwin Hubble, the famed scientist after whom the Hubble Space Telescope is named, is the 24th Missourian to be so honored. Hubble is credited with developing the expanding universe – or big bang theory. Hubble was born in Marshfield, in southwest Missouri, in 1889, and died in San Marino, California, in 1953.
