The Royals blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning to lose to the Red Sox 5-4. The game ended with a Mike Sweeney error. But there were plenty of miscues preceding Sweeney’s snafu. Relievers Mike MacDougal and D.J. Carrasco hit three batters in the ninth. MacDougal was charged with all three runs scored in the ninth and got the loss. The Royals have now lost three in a row and have blown leads in all three. Last night’s game and Sunday’s contest against the Blues Jays involved ninth-inning collapses.
