The state’s Department of Higher Education sees a lot of positives in Governor Holden’s budget proposals. The proposal calls for the Department, itself, to make some small cuts but it maintains current spending for the state’s institutions of higher learning. Higher Education Commissioner Quentin Wilson likes that as well as the idea of the Governor calling for the creation of a Commission on the Future of Higher Education that will address the challenges facing higher education and work to strengthen the link between higher education and economic growth. It will include business and civic leaders, representatives of two- and four-year educational institutions, non-profit and other community groups, and elected officials.
