A spokesman for Governor Bob Holden says he sees no reason to put a hold on executions in Missouri. The question has been raised because outgoing Illinois Governor George Ryan has commuted all death sentences in Illinois to life without parole. Missouri officials have maintained the system in this state is better than the system used in Illinois and protects against the kinds of mistakes that have led to freedom for some men otherwise facing death.
