Federal dollars will help the Kansas City Police Department use DNA testing to solve old homicide cases. A $111,000 federal grant will provide close to $90,000 in overtime pay for lab experts and more than $21,000 to buy supplies for DNA tests. An official with the Kansas City Crime Lab is hoping the grant money will be used to look at 50 to 100 unsolved violent crimes and determine how many unsolved cases with good DNA evidence have yet to be tested because of a lack of time and money.
