Human Error To Blame For May Whiteman AFB Accident

November 4, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

A report released by the Air Force’s Air Combat Command lists improper maintenance procedures as the primary cause of a May 15th mishap at Whiteman Air Force Base that injured five airmen. The five were hurt when the B-2 Stealth Bomber they were conducting maintenance on collapsed. According to the report, one of the maintenance personnel improperly removed a landing gear safety pin, and then pushed the locking assembly into an unsafe position. Without hydraulic power, the aircraft collapsed under its own weight.
