Fish kills at a Central Missouri dam could end up putting the operation of the dam in jeopardy. Missouri Conservation Department officials say the large loss of fish, in particular paddlefish, is due to the fish gettingsucked into the turbines and the turbulence at Bagnell Dam at the Lake of the Ozarks. The Department’s Bill Turner wants screens putin front of those areas to keep the fish out. AmerenUE spokesman Mike Cleary agrees the screens would probably help, but he believes the timing of this announcement while Ameren is working on renewing their license is designed to get certain concessions from thecompany.
