Confirmation Hearings Further Strain Already Strained Relationship At Capitol

May 7, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

A relationship already strained is strained further as Governor Bob Holden and Senate Leader Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau trade jabs over comfirmation hearings. The Governor took his shot during his last news conference on appointments, stating he has dozens of nominees awaiting confirmation. Senator Kinder says the Senate took its spring break having confirmed only seventeen appointments, because Governor Holden had only forwarded that many. About twenty nominees come before a Senate committee on Wednesday, the last hearing of the legislative session. Senator Kinder says time might run out before the Senate considers all the Governor’s appointments.
