Dan Reichert allowed just a run on four hits in six innings of work, but it proved to be too much as he took the loss in the Kansas City Royals 1-0 decision at Yankee Stadium. Mike Mussina made his New York debut by pitching 7 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and striking out three. The only run of the game came in the first inning when Paul O’Neill drilled a solo home run off Reichert. The Royals open their home campaign today against the Minnesota Twins.
