Layoffs in the tourism and construction industries are credited with the slight increase in unemployment in Missouri last month. The September figure is 2.9%, up .1% from August, but the same as September of 1999. Analyst Holly Harber with the department of economic development says the percentages are not the only story. Linn County’s 9% unemployment rate in September was the highest for any county. Nodaway County’s rate of 8/10% of one percent was the lowest.
