Winston Churchill spoke at Westminster College in 1946 as a favor to President Harry Truman, and used the symbol of an iron curtain to describe the Soviet Union. It was the first recognition of the Cold War and Morlock says it made Fulton a Mecca for future dignitaries. Two other Prime Ministers and four American Presidents followed. Westminster has also capitalized on the notoriety by creating the Churchill memorial and sponsoring Churchill scholarships. Republican vice-presidential candidate Dick Cheney spoke there yesterday.
