River proposal to be studied longer

October 3, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it takes very seriously the impact of a Fish and Wildlife proposal on how it manages the Missouri River. So seriously, the Corps has extended the time states and interests groups can comment on it. Corps spokesman Paul Johnston says the original deadline of last Friday has been extended to Tuesday, October 10th. The so-called biological opinion of the Fish and Wildlife Service proposes spring flows into the Missouri River from upstream dams be increased in the spring to aid endangered species. Missouri officials have objected, saying that case hasn’t been adequately made while its adoption would hurt navigation on the Missouri.
