The Royals thought they were headed to the 12th inning. Catch Gregg Zaun argued with umpires as they left the field. Mike Cameron was called safe at the plate as Seattle beat Kansas City 2-1 in 11 innings. Replays showed Zaun blocked the plate and tagged Cameron for the final out of the inning before his hand crossed the plate. Cameron scored on Jay Buhner’s double. Blake Stein pitched nine innings allowing just one run for the Royals. Ricky Bottalico took the loss in relief.
