Chiefs quarterback Warren Moon may be playing for his career tonight in what is otherwise a meaningless preseason game. Moon is scheduled to play the middle two quarters in what is his final chance to secure the number two quarterback job over Todd Collins. Elvis Grbac is a lock for the top spot, and it looks like the Chiefs will keep Ted White around as number three. Todd Collins has had chances to start for other teams. He’s never been able to hold onto the job. Meanwhile, Moon is one of the most prolific passers in football history. Yes, he’s way past his prime, and there’s no way he could hold up for a whole season as a starter, but I think he may have a couple big games left in his right arm, and that’s the kind of guy I’d like to have on the bench. If Grbac were to go down to injury for a few games, I could see Moon carrying the Chiefs through for a brief stretch. That’s why I hope Moon plays well tonight and wins that job. I’d like to see him get a little more glory before he hangs up a great career.
