The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to be careful when they see emergency vehicles pulled over on the side of the road. The reminder comes after Sergeant Brad Lively was struck and seriously injured this week after making a routine traffic stop just north of Cape Girardeau. Highway Patrol spokesman Captain Chris Ricks says being a trooper is a dangerous job, but he says the public could help make the situation safer by slowing down and moving into the outside lane when emergency vehicles are pulled over to the right. Ricks says, however, the majority of the driving public does not slow down and move over.
