Someone is pretending online to be Missouri Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-3rd District, and trying to scam people into sending money through Facebook Messenger.

Luetkemeyer himself unveiled the scam on his X account, formerly known as Twitter. Someone lifted a photo of the Congressman and created a Facebook Messenger profile as “Agent Blaine Luetkemeyer.”

The real Blaine messaged the imposter, expressing interest in applying for a program grant. The imposter messaged the congressman back, saying he had to let him know if he was applying as an individual or an organization – to which the congressman said “yes and I appreciate you all and America needs to stand on the grounds that we (were) founded on.”

The imposter then sent him several reference numbers that he would have to provide to UPS if he won any grant money.

Luetkemeyer then warned people on social media about the scam and if contacted by the fake Blaine to report it to the Federal Trade Commission.
