Nearly 100,000 criminal convictions involving marijuana offenses have been expunged in Missouri since Amendment 3 was passed last year.

TV Station KMBC in Kansas City reports that local governments across Missouri are behind on erasing both felony and misdemeanor marijuana offenses, but the state is also dealing with “a century of marijuana prohibition,” according to Dan Viets, one of Amendment 3’s authors.

The amendment, which Missouri voters passed one year ago this week, legalized recreational marijuana use for adults. In December of 2022, possession of three ounces of cannabis or less was decriminalized. Commercial sales of cannabis began in February of this year.

Medical use of marijuana was legalized by Missouri voters in November 2018.
