St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored in the sixth round  of the shootout to help the Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 at Scottrade Center on Wednesday. After he beat Hawks goalie Corey Crawford for the third time during the shoot, Teuvo Teravainen’s attempt hit the post giving the Blues the victory.

The Blues were down 1-0 in the second after Chicago scored on the power play, following a five-minute charging major to Ryan Reeves.  St. Louis rallied with a pair of power play goals from David Backes and Troy Brouwer.  Backes scored his 17th deflecting a low wrist shot from Shattenkirk past Crawford’s glove side.  Then less than five minutes later, Brouwer parked him just inside the faceoff circle to the left of Crawford and took a pass from Robbi Fabbri, beat Crawford high over the shoulder to make it 2-1.

Late in the third with an extra attacker, the Hawks kept a Shattenkirk clearing attempt in the offensive zone.  That led to a one-timer from their rookie Artemi Panarin off a pass from Jonathan Toews that beat Jake Allen with 1:17 left in regulation.

Allen made 33 saves in the win and the key was keeping Chicago to just one goal during the major penalty.

“I think that was the turning point, to be honest,” said Allen.  “If you get five minutes, you should score a goal, but we stuck with it in the second period, guys played great and we had some chances. Crawford made some big saves for them to keep them in it, and we took it to them in the third.”
