Max Scherzer, the former Missouri Tiger and Chesterfield, Mo. native, made good on his fifth start in search of his 20th win. Battling a light rain and early struggles, Scherzer made it through six innings allowing three runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out three as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 12-5. Scherzer was humble after the game.

“That 20-win stuff is great,” Scherzer (20-3) said, “but we can see the playoffs in sight. I’ll appreciate it more after the season. It’s a beautiful thing about this team, you don’t have personal stuff on your mind. Nobody in here cares about personal stuff. We just want to win.”
