Tyrrell holds off defending champ to win junior golf title

June 10, 2013 By Bill Pollock

The final round of the 54th Missouri Women’s Golf Association Junior Championship on Friday was part of a 36 hole, par 71, 5603 yard tournament was held at Lake Valley Golf and Country Club in Camdenton, MO.

Going in to the final round, Jean Tyrrell of Leawood, KS had a 2 shot lead over Madison Frerking of Blue Springs, MO and three shots ahead of defending champion Jordan Chael of Overland Park, KS.

Chael and Tyrrell tied on #13. When reaching the 14th par four, Chael’s three putt double bogey seemed to make the difference for the rest of her round as they reached 18 with Tyrell leading by one shot. Chael’s attempt at a 12 foot birdie putt to force the playoff failed to drop, and Tyrrell’s par was enough to claim the 2013 Junior title.
