Senator McCaskill calls the fiscal compromised bill passed by the senate early this morning “a down-payment on a more realistic econimic policy.”  But she says Congress has to do better and has to develop a “broader, balanced package” to deal with the budget deficit.  And she says Congress has to end stalemates that endanger the economy.

Senator Blunt says he’s glad the deal “protects middle class families and small business owners from tax hikes.”   He says it also “ensures the vast majority of farm families and small businesses in Missouri” will not face the estate tax that is scheduled to go into effect if the bill is not finally approved.

The Senate passed the bill 89-8 early this morning. The House still must approve it.
