The first official MIAA contest in Lindenwood athletics history was successful as the Lions football team, a powerhouse at the NAIA level for several years, defeated Lincoln University 49-28 on Saturday in Jefferson City, Mo.

With the game close, 28-21 at the half, Lindenwood’s defense stiffled the Blue Tigers, holding them to -1 yards of total offense in the quarter. The defense ended up allowing just 74 yards in the second half and Lincoln scored just once, in the final minute of the game.

Ben Gomez had an impressive debut at quarterback as he threw for 407 yards, the fourth-best single-game total in Lindenwood history. He was 25-of-41 passing and had five touchdown passes, the second-best mark at Lindenwood.
