Affordable Care Act upheld, Missouri reaction awaited

June 28, 2012 By [email protected]

The United States Supreme Court within the hour has upheld the Affordable Care Act. The complicated 5-4 ruling was written by Chief Justice John Roberts, who was the swing vote.

The court has ruled the commerce clause cannot force Missouri businesses to provide health insurance to employees. But the court says the government has the power to penalize businesses that do not under its taxation powers — and the penalty constitutes a tax.

Missouri officials on both sides of the aisle are analyzing the ruling and you’ll be hearing from them on Missourinet newscasts throughout the day.
