Springfield apartment fire blamed on cigarette

Springfield investigators say a fire on Father’s Day that damaged 12 units in an apartment complex there was the latest case of a fire caused by improper discarding of smoking materials. Officials say the Lakeshore Apartments fire began in a Tupperware container being used as an ashtray. Two other Springfield apartment fires going back to October have been linked to careless disposal of smoking materials.The Springfield Fire Department is warning citizens against discarding smoking materials on combustable balconies or decks, or in containers not made for that use.
