Soon to be rival beats up on old rival in marquee hoops matchup

November 16, 2011 By Bill Pollock

If you thought playing Kansas in basketball was a (insert your own expletive), wait until next season when the Missouri Tigers begin play in the SEC and have to face Kentucky twice a year. With dazzling freshmen, guys who can shoot, speed and size, the #2 Kentucky Wildcats took care of #11 Kansas winning 75-65.

Doron Lamb scored 17 points, Terrence Jones had 15 after a sloppy first half where the Wildcats trailed KU for most of the half. Kentucky rallied despite 19 turnovers by blocking 13 shots and holding the Jayhawks to 33% shooting.

For coach John Calipari, he won for the first time against KU, where he started as an assistant in 1982. Calipari is looking for his first national championship and came close in 2008, but the Jayhawks got past Calipari’s Memphis Tigers in overtime.
