Trevor Wooden, Missouri State’s starting quarterback, will serve a one-game suspension for violation of team rules, head football coach Terry Allen announced today (Aug. 25). The suspension will be served during the team’s season opener at Arkansas on Sept. 3, in accordance with the University’s Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.
“Trevor made a poor decision during the spring by breaking a team rule which will affect his availability for our opener,” Allen said. “I’m very disappointed by the situation, but I think it is in the best interest of our program to announce our decision at this time and move forward in our preparation for the Arkansas game. There are consequences for breaking rules, and I hope and believe that Trevor will learn from his mistake and become a better person because of this.”
According to Allen, Wooden will continue practicing with the team throughout the suspension and have an opportunity to earn his starting job back after the Arkansas game. The Bears have two other scholarship quarterbacks in camp with Mitchell Jenkins (RFr., Springfield, Mo.) and Kierra Harris (Fr., Texarkana, Ark.) now competing for the starting role against the Razorbacks.
“More is expected of me as a leader on this team, and I let my teammates down,” Wooden said. “I have great respect for this program and the University, and I won’t let them down again.”
After the trip to Fayetteville, the Bears travel to Eastern Kentucky for their second game on Sept. 10.
