Blunt doesn’t know if Joplin will get full recovery funding

July 3, 2011 By Brian Hauswirth

Senator Blunt says he’ll know more about if the Federal Emergency Management Agency will fund the Joplin recovery at 100 percent of the cost in early August. He says there’s a benchmark at 75 days after the tornado to evaluate what still needs to be done.

He says he does want to push them to hire local contractors to do the cleanup. He says putting local people back to work will double down on the economic recovery in the area.

Blunt says the federal government will share in the cost of clean-up and the cost of personal losses from the victims. He says he’s happy Missouri asked for 100 percent, because he thinks if we would have asked for 90, the government would have said 75.
