Murder charges dropped against 11-year-old

October 2, 2010 By admin

A murder charge against an 11-year-old Independence boy accused of killing his father has been dropped by Jackson County.

The boy, who’s name has been withheld, was one of the youngest ever to face a murder charge in Jackson County. A juvenile officer who requested the charge be dropped stated in court that the boy had been chronically and severely neglected and “had no choice” when he shot 52-year-old David Paul Champ August 2nd in their home. The State Corrections Department reports that Champ, a scrap dealer, had served three prison terms, including one in the 70s for assault with intent to kill.
