Albert Pujols hit two home runs, giving him 39 on the season, to help Kyle Lohse to his third win of the season, as the Cardinals beat the Braves on Sunday night 7-3. For Pujols, it was his fifth multi-homer game of the season, giving him 38 for his career. Last night’s performance passed Stan Musial’s club record.

Pujols now leads the NL with his 39 homers and 104 RBI. Kyle Lohse (3-7) allowed nine hits but only two runs in 5 1/3 innings to beat Tim Hudson (15-8), who gave up six runs in five innings in his third straight loss.

The Cardinals gained a game on Cincinnati who lost to Pittsburgh 3-1, but still trail the Reds by six in the National League Central. The climb remains impossible in the wild card, as the Cards trail by 6.5 games with multiple teams to jump over.
