Cardinals starting pitcher Brad Penny gave up two home runs as the Cardinals lost to Philadelphia 4-0. Placido Polanco’s two run homer in the fourth was the first home run allowed by a Cardinals starter in 21 games.
That stretch lasted 145 2/3 innings for Cards’ starters. Shane Victorino made the score 3-0 with a two run homer in the sixth. MLB will keep track of what they call “quality starts” because Penny went six innings, but giving up two homers is not a quality start in my book.
Granted, he didn’t get support like you would expect from the offense…Kyle Kendrick pitched seven shutout innings allowing just six hits. The Cardinals will go for the series split today starting at noon. They have to face Roy Halladay who is 5-1 with a 1.47 ERA. St. Louis is looking to avoid their first three game losing streak of the season.
