The Cardinals acquired right-handed starting pitcher Brett Tomko from the Padres for middle reliever Luther Hackman and a player to be named later. That player will be taken in today’s Rule 5 draft. Tomko was 10-10 last season with a 4.49 ERA. This should end the Cardinals quest to re-sign Chuck Finley. Reports out of St. Louis last week had Finley and the team agreeing to a one-year deal. Those reports turned out to be premature.
