House Republican Leader Catherine Hanaway of Warson Woods had laid claim to a mandate for change as Republicans take control of the Missouri House for the first time in 48 years. Hanaway says the election of 90 Republicans for State Representative proves Missourians want change at the State Capitol. Topping Hanaway’s list is the Republican contention that gambling revenues haven’t been added on to normal education funding to benefit Missouri schools. She also says the state broke its promise when it raised gas taxes in 1992 and failed to fulfill the 15-year highway paln. Still, Hanaway says the only promise the new Republican majority will make now is to work hard to serve the people of the State. The majority party sets the agenda for the House each session.
