Governor Nixon says five years is enough time for nursing homes to have installed sprinkler systems. He’s vetoed a bill that would have extended the deadline from December 2012 to the end of 2014.

It was in December 2006 that a fire killed 11 people at the Anderson Guest House in McDonald County. Nixon says 90 percent of nursing homes are in compliance, the remaining ten percent should not be given another two years to meet the deadline.
