The State Board of Education has voted 5-1 to "unaccredit" the St. Louis School District, Missouri’s largest district.

The move clears the way for appointment of a three-person special board to administer the system. The present St. Louis Board of Education will remain in existence but will have no administrative power. Some members of the St. Louis Board say they will file a court challenge to the action as early as next week.

A couple of bus loads of protestors showed up for the meeting and briefly forced the state board to recess while they shouted "No Takeover." The demonstration broke up when police moved in, and hauled one protestor away who had shoved an officer.
