The SMS Bears were able to beat the buzzer to top Drake 51-50 in Des Moines on Sunday. Trailing 50-49, Merrill Andrew nailed a 10-foot jumper from the left baseline to give the Bears a last second win. If this story sounds a little familiar, it’s because Andrews did the same thing to Drake a year a go. The Bears were able to grab the victory despite the absence of starter Tamar Maclin who was out with a foot injury he suffered in practice on Saturday. Tyler Chaney was the only bear in double digits, scoring 12 points. The win moves SMS’ record to 13-6 overall and gives them a 5-3 mark in the Missouri valley conference.
