Make it six straight Class 2 titles for Lamar, becoming the first school in MSHSAA history to achieve that feat.

Vianney is the first state champion with five losses.

Harrisonville used a fast start, scoring on their first two possessions and built a 21-0 halftime lead, then held off the defending Class 4 champs with a 21-14 win over Kearney.  It marked the first time in 47 years that two metro KC schools played each other for the title.

Monett won their first state football championship since 1977.  The Year of the Cubs!

Penney capped off a perfect season racking up 477 total yards.

For the first time since 1996, the MSHSAA Show-Me Bowl football titles will not be played at the dome in the St. Louis.  This Friday, the 8-man title and the Class 6 championship will be played in Columbia on Faurot Field.  The following week, Class 1-5 championships will be played on Plaster Field in Springfield.

For the fifth year in a row, Stanberry and North Andrew will square off in the 8-man title.  Stanberry won the titles in 2015 and 2012, with North Andrew taking the championship games in 2013 and 2014.

Blue Springs used their muscle up front to slow down the fast paced CBC Cadets who were the top ranked team all season.  Kirkwood, a solid football team, surprised many who follow high school football after their 24-17 win over Rockhurst.  They will meet for the Class 6 title.

Webb City’s attempt at making it to the semifinals for the 9th straight year ends.  It’s the first win for the Wildcats over Webb City in program history.  Joe Bowers went up the middle untouched 54 yards for a touchdown that put Harrisonville up 27-14 early in the fourth quarter. Webb City scored on the next possession, and had one last shot and mounted a 78-yard drive that ended on the Wildcats’ 25 in the closing minutes.

First time since 1968 that Vianney heads to the state semifinals after knocking off top ranked Chaminade.

Julian Ross scored four touchdowns.

Ft. Zumwalt North 52, Glendale 22Ft. Zumwalt North senior quarterback and safety Cade Brister had two interceptions that led directly to points and added a third interception at the end of the first half.  On offense, Brister rushed 27 times for 177 yards and five touchdowns. He was 6-of-9 passing for 67 yards.

After a four-hour bus ride down I-70, Kirkwood advances to the Class 6 championship.  Kirkwood’s Reece Goddard becomes the school’s all-time passing yardage leader, pushing his career total to 4,531. 

Blue Springs 35, Christian Brothers College 21
It will be the third state championship appearance for Blue Springs in the past five seasons and the first since it won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.  CBC  had its string of 28 consecutive home wins snapped. The last team to beat the Cadets on their home field was De Smet on November 9, 2012.
