Philly Francis @mattyfran77‘s reaction to #SBLII
What Andy Reid can learn from Doug Pederson
Robin Pingeton lost her composure last night and it cost Mizzou. Just once I’d love to see Puxatony Phil lose his composure!
On today’s show…
I told you Mizzou men’s basketball was in some kind of a funk. Cuonzo Martin confirmed after the Tigers win over Alabama.
I can see where USC fans misunderstood Mizzou A.D. Jim Sterk’s comment about Dawn Staley, but I don’t think USC is completely innocent in this rivalry. I’ll play you a sample.
Former MLB player Oscar Gamble died. He talked about why he had that gigantic afro in the 70’s.
It all started when I asked Mizzou women’s basketball coach Robin Pingeton if she had heard the allegations that a player or players from her team were spit on by USC fans. Then Athletic Director Jim Sterk stated during a radio interview that players were spit on and called the “N” word and blames Carolina coach Dawn Staley.
South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner disputes those claims after interview staff and security personnel.
You’ll hear the full comments from Pingeton and Sterk and I’ll read Tanner’s statement.
Not sure we’ll ever get to the bottom of this story.
Big winner in the Chiefs-Redskins trade? Alex Smith.
Blues win again, “Yeo What’s Up?”
Part 2 of Super Fans Eric and Matt…who do you like better? Who will you cheer for in Super Bowl LII?
Chief Wahoo was offensive and now the Cleveland baseball franchise will remove that logo from their uniforms starting in 2019. There are names of other pro teams that could be deemed offensive…where does it stop?
I’ve yet to hear from one Mizzou fan, softball fan or Mizzou softball supporter who believes firing Ehren Earleywine was the best move for the program.
Eric and Matt…two of my co-workers love the Patriots and Eagles. Not sure what insight you’ll get on the X’s and O’s of the Super Bowl, but you’ll be able to listen to these guys spew their love and decide who you want to cheer for this Sunday.
Mizzou women’s basketball…back-to-back losses to ranked teams on the road. Are they contenders or pretenders? One thing for sure, the officials did nothing to help out the Tigers Sunday at South Carolina.
Cuonzo Martin praised Terrance Phillips earlier this season for his leadership…but he’s being investigated by the school’s Title IX office. Are things continuing to go south for the Mizzou men’s basketball program?
I’ll talk about the timing of Mizzou’s firing of softball coach Ehren Earleywine…Is there ever a right time to pull the plug on a coach.
Plus, you’ll hear from the Offensive MVP of the Pro Bowl who has ties to Missouri and Lorenzo Cain makes a strange appearance at Royals’ Fan Fest this weekend.
Sarcasmgate is growing. If you’re a loyal listener to the podcast you know tagging “gate” to the end of something is a pet peeve of mine, but apparently my sarcastic tweet during Mizzou’s loss to Auburn the other night has stung some fans. I’ll read the reactions!
Lorenzo Cain is going back to Milwaukee and the Brewers added another outfielder in Christian Yelich from Miami. The Brew Crew making moves to compete with the Cardinals and Cubs in 2018. Are they giddy in Milwaukee this morning? I have a guest who will tell us about the vibe in Wisconsin
WWE founder Vince McMahon is bringing back his XFL football league but promises changes. Will his league have any impact on the NFL and could St. Louis get a franchise?
Things have not looked good for men’s basketball lately at Missouri, but Cuonzo Martin expected his team would have some bumps in the road. How quickly the Tigers can fight through this funk will tell us whether or not this team is on the bubble or a sure lock for the NCAA tournament.
I’m excited about the Mizzou women and their number 11 ranking, but the next three games are going to prove to me if I sit up and take notice or just hang back and wait for the SEC Tournament. Over the next eight days, we’ll see if the Tigers are for real.
Plus, Chiefs keeping their defensive coordinator, Blues may get a boost to their offense.
Usually when the players meet with the media, they’re upbeat, laughing, joking around with each other. On Tuesday, they looked lethargic, no energy…much like their performance Saturday against Texas A & M. Now, I’m not suggesting that the team is quitting on Cuonzo Martin, but the Tigers appear to be in a bit of a funk.
Perhaps it was nothing more than just not wanting to answer questions about their 60-49 loss.
The energy level needs to change against Auburn tonight if Mizzou wants to avoid dropping below .500 at home.
Other topics covered on today’s podcast:
Chris Carpenter, Jason Isringhausen and Scott Rolen are not HOF worthy. The Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will be revealed tonight.
Yeo, what’s up? After a wakeup call, the Blues responded.
George Brett will be on an ABC comedy.
Good for John Goehrke. He’s going to the Super Bowl. That’s cool in itself. What’s even better? He’s going with gorgeous tennis star Genie Bouchard. There might be a future for this cute couple?
University of Missouri student John Goehrke got Genie Bouchard to agree to a date if the New England Patriots rallied to win last year’s Super Bowl.
They attended an NBA game and had a great time. Then NFL Canada reached out to Bouchard to get the ball rolling for a second date.
