We spend a lot of time around the Mississippi River in Missouri, but how much do we really know about how the river works?
This fall, the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch are bringing back an unusual cruise that takes passengers right into a working lock and dam system near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. It’s a five-hour trip aboard the Tom Sawyer with a chance to see firsthand how this part of the river system handles some of the nation’s busiest barge traffic. Amber Barbeau is director of the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch.
