Heavy rain caused flooding problems across parts of central and northern Missouri early Thursday, prompting water rescues and power outages. In central Missouri, Columbia and Boone County were among the hardest-hit areas, where firefighters rescued people from two vehicles trapped in floodwaters.
Forecasters said many locations received between one and three inches of rain overnight, with some areas recording more than three inches and isolated totals approaching four inches. A Flood Watch remained in effect Thursday for much of northern and central Missouri, as well as portions of eastern Missouri, including the St. Louis region.
The storms also caused scattered power outages across the state. More than 500 customers in Boone County were without electricity Thursday morning, while outages were also reported in Crawford County, Montgomery County and Cass County, which had one of the highest outage totals in Missouri.
Weather leaders expect rain to gradually diminish through the day, although additional scattered thunderstorms remain possible in parts of Missouri later Thursday and into Friday.
