Nearly 20 states have reported cases of cyclosporiasis, which causes upset stomach and severe diarrhea.
Missouri Epidemiologist Nathan Koffarnas says such cases are more common during the warmer months of the year and can be connected to improper washing of produce. He notes most cases are among those who have traveled internationally, but not always. Koffarnas says there have been cases in Missouri, but so far, all are tied to international travel.
